The dress that shocked Val Parnell by Clifford Davis
SHOWMAN Val Parnell look one look at this picture of curvaceous Sabrina in a daringly slinky black gown and said firmly:
"SHE CAN'T WEAR THAT—NOT IN ANY PROGRAMME OF MINE."
Sabrina planned to wear the dress for her first ITV appearance — in the Jack Jackson show tomorrow night. She will present her first recording, a song called "I want a man."
' Precaution'
Mr Parnell, chief executive of Associated Television, told me last night:
"As a precaution I thought I'd better inquire what Sabrina was going to wear.
"Peter Clover, the producer of the show, brought along a picture.
"I saw at once we couldn't have anything like that on TV."
Showman Val paused and chuckled, "What was wrong with it?
"Well, er... er... THERE WAS JUST TOO MUCH OF SABRINA."
'Another?'
Mr. Glover's secretary told Sabrina of the ban and asked: "Have you another dress a little less revealing?"
The answer was "NO" Sabrina explained: "I just haven't got any gowns which show any less of me."
Then Sabrina's Mum came to the rescue. She said, "I'll have to make you a dress."
And that is just what Mum was doing last night — stitching away at a turquoise gown.
It is the gown Mum made which you will see on TV tomorrow.
£2,500 an Inch
- STATISTICS NOTE: Sabrina yesterday insured the first of her 41-19-36 statistics for £100,000 at Lloyd's.
- Because the figure is so big the risk has been shared among a group of underwriters.
- For every inch Sabrina loses, she will receive £2,500. Sabrina's first statistic used to be 40. But when her measurement was checked at the insurance office it was discovered she had put on an inch.
