RAMSBOTTOM RIDES AGAIN ***
IT'S corny; it's rowdy; it's erratic; it's over-boisterous
and under-directed. If you asked me why I laughed so hard, I wouldn't
be able to tell you. But I did. And I think you will, too.
The basic gag stems from the idea of pint-sized Arthur Askey selling up the
home pub and dragging his family off to Canada to inherit the property left
by his illustrious grandfather, Wild Bill Ramsbottom.
Once there, he dons a Stetson two sizes too large for him and gets hopelessly
involved with a tough hombre (Sidney James), an Indian chief (Jerry Desmonde
- no less) and the local law (Frankie Vaughan). Mad? Of course. But so good-humoured.
Askey lords it cleverly over his partners in comedy: Shani Wallis (as his daughter),
Glenn Melvyn (as his gormless buddy) and Anthea Askey, as a tough Western gal.
Sabrina, too, wanders through, practically wordless, now and then. But you
barely notice her! [Absolute twaddle! Ed]

Everyone gets to enjoy the
web-sized, reasonable quality WMV Ramsbottom version (8M).
The quality of the video is mediocre, but considering that its very existence was long doubted, some Sabrina is better than no Sabrina. It has been recorded from TV onto VHS, dubbed to DVD and then converted to WMV and DivX. Don't expect HDMI quality!
And if ANYONE out there ever sees Ramsbottom Rides Again in their TV guide, please run out and buy a High Definition Hard Disk Recorder, record the movie in HD mode and report to me AT ONCE ! |
